Osinbajo Explains Why Herdsmen Killings Continue

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Friday explained that lack of local Police is one major reason that herdsmen have continued to visit violence on some parts of the country.

Osinbajo said security men posted to parts of the country where language barriers are rampant would always find it hard to function properly.
While recognizing “Security as possibly the most important function of the government” Osinbajo said Nigeria must adopt the state police strategy in order to have adequate policing.
“we must have state police. Policing is always a local function. If a police man does not speak the local language he cannot function
“The slow responses to herdmens crisis is that the loca police is weak.
“We must have special forces to maintain peace, the only solution we can profer is local policing”
Osinbajo reiterated the calls for the devolution of power as part of the restructuring the country needed to function as a nation.
Speaking as a guest of honor at the Lagos State House of Assembly 3rd anniversary Osinbajo lamented that the aggregation of too many powers at the centre had stalled development just as he recalled the massive development in infrastructure education and security when Nigeria operated autonomous regions.
He said it was the desire to deepen the autonomy of the States that Lagos under Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had challenged  the Federal Government on several occasions.
At the lecture are Governors of Lagos Akinwumi Ambode Rauf Aregbesola of Osun and former Governor of Lagos Tinubu who was represented by former Deputy Governor Femi Pedro.
Others are the event are former Speaker of the House of Representatives Umar Ghali Na’Abbah and other political leaders.
Osinbajo who launched into many of The strategies embarked upon by the Muhammadu Buhari administration to energize the national economy said the current government sees the informal sector as the best to invest in saying that poverty thrives in Nigeria more because those in the informal sector are the largest.
