The Federal Government special farm
settlement project worth over N200 billion has been abandoned six years after
its commencement.

The project, which was awarded to traditional ruler of a community in Bayelsa
state under the regime of former president Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, was expected
to house staff of the settlement, office complex and agricultural
facilities.
The complex was to assist the Anambra state College of Agriculture, Mgbakwu,
in the institution’s practice works when completed.
According to the former for
agriculture, chief Godson Ezenagu, who spoke with reporters in Awka North Local
Government area the project was attracted by him while he was in office, but
lamented that it had been abandoned six years after.
“This is a federal government project and it was awarded to a contractor,
who is a traditional ruler in Bayelsa state and the contractor mobilized to
site and later work stopped.”
We have written to the Federal
Ministry of Agriculture and ever since nothing had been done.
Ezenagu, who is the federal House of Representatives’ candidate for
under the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP), noted that party his
mission in national assembly was to ensure that the project was completed.
“We have college of agriculture Mgbakwu, and the settlement was to
service the school in practical training and also provide employment for people
in the area.
“The five buildings already constructed in the area have all collapsed
and it is fast becoming a hideout for criminals.
